John Grant. Monuments and Distant Memories, 2012.
Branch and Cedar.
We seem to live in a fractured world. my attempt here is to use a new process that helps to express the feeling of distance from and longing for the past. i have been collecting the elements for several years, though this body of work came together within the last few months. the selections i made, the process that i used and the intensity of the finished product kept pulling me ahead.
i like that this work is not always literal, leaving the mind and spirit to interpret and also making it quite different from normal documentary photography. i like that i’ve been able to use photography as a form of self-expression.
A note about the process: this work was done by printing archival pigment inks onto film and then transferring the image to yupo synthetic paper. distortions and imperfections are random and unpredictable.
